I Met Michelle Obama!

October 23, 2010

This past Wednesday I went to the White House to accept an award on behalf of San Francisco WritersCorps, a creative writing program for youth. With me was a WritersCorps student, Nicole. Michelle Obama was warm and lovely (and tall!) as she presented us with the 2010 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. WritersCorps was one of 15 programs from across the country to win the award, which comes with a $10,000 grant. Learn more about the award here. I have more to say about our White House visit, but just wanted to get this photo up first. Watch the ceremony and the First Lady’s speech here at the White House site or below. (WritersCorps is on at around the 20:22 mark.)
