I Met Michelle Obama!

This past Wednesday I went to the White House to accept an award on behalf of San Francisco WritersCorps, a creative writing program for youth. With me was a WritersCorps student, Nicole. Michelle Obama was warm and lovely (and tall!) as she presented us with the 2010 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. WritersCorps was one of 15 programs from across the country to win the award, which comes with a $10,000 grant. Learn more about the award here. to be a better writer, to built their confidence and self esteem.
I wish there was a similar program available to me when I came to the State 40 years ago.
